Expanding the Concept of Literacy

Daily argues that is extremely important for there to be a vernacular of the screen. A vernacular is basically a language that is spoken, therefore a vernacular of the screen would be a language that is used to discuss a screen. In the text Daily argues that multimedia has power to do things that text can't, because multimedia is non linear where text is linear. Daily explains, "like text, multimedia can enable us to develop concepts and abstractions, comparisons and metaphors, while at the same time engaging our emotional and aesthetics sensibilities." This quote is perfect in promoting the power of multimedia.
One specific idea that daily discusses that I agree with is, how awesome it would be to be able to access old pictures through the use of multimedia. How cool would it be to be able to not only look at pictures of your ancestors, but also here a recording of there voice or some text they wrote. I believe that this idea is extremely significant for our class, because we now have the technology and ability to do this with internet 3.0. In other words in interactive media production we will be able to produce media that interacts with a consumer, as well as, media that can be viewed by consumers for years to come.
