Vlog 4

Today in class we picked scripts for our fiction project. I’m really excited to do the whole filming and editing process with my group. My role on the team is to be the head editor and soundman. I believe that quality editing goes hand in hand with quality sound. What I mean by this is that a video can only be as successful as the editing and sound allows it to be. The video clip below is a perfect example of an editor/soundman mixing video and audio to create a perfectly harmonious scene.

This scene is truly a great example of quality editing and sound. It just so happens that the song is by one of my all time favorite bands, the Velvet Underground. The song is entitled “these days”, the name of the song fits in perfectly with the plot of the scene, because on these days Richie waits for his usual escort by the way of the green line bus. Director Wes Anderson always has scenes like this in all his movies, and I believe his editors completely understand the harmonious mix of audio and video.

This clip is another great example of using editing and audio to aid in the quality of a scene. I really like the quick cut to Steave Zissou in the water before the action starts. Also as soon as the action starts the sound fades away and the only sound that can be heard is the song “Search and Destroy” by Iggy pop and the Stooges. The only sound during the song that can be heard is, the gun shot that kills one of the pirates, and the interns scream when he gets cut by the knife. This is a very effective way of mixing editing and audio to create an original scene.
