Wiki Lore and Politics in the Classroom

The article Wiki Lore and Politics in the Classroom gives a great definition of how valuable wikis can be fore the classroom. I agree with the article wikis can be a great tool for communication in a classroom, in fact wiki’s could be an extremely important form of communication for any community. As the video shown in class explains, a wiki is a good way to have people communicate with one another over the Internet. In fact, wiki’s are much easier to use for online communication than an email. The article explained a few things about wikis that I didn’t already know, however, the most important thing the article states is “ And who knows? With time a class wiki may be as standard as a no. 2 pencil.” This statement could be very close to the truth, after using wikis last class I’m looking forward to using them in other aspects of my life. Proof of the effectiveness of wikis would be the online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Wikipedia grew from an idea to the world’s largest encyclopedia. I believe being taught how to use a wiki in class will be very beneficial not only for the classroom, but also to be used as an effective tool to enter online societies in the real world after college. For instance, businessmen can use a wiki to keep in contact with clients, as well as use the wiki as a documented history of there conversation.
